An advisor to the National Electoral Commission (NEC) said the upcoming general election scheduled to be held from April 11 to 13 will be free and fair.

The commission’s media advisor Abu Bakr Waziri said the polls will not be postponed despite speculation that the date of the vote would be changed because of disputes over the census and on-going strife in the western region of Darfur, National media group agency reported.

Mr. Waziri said nothing has been officially issued from the electoral commission to postpone or to delay the elections, unless otherwise determined by Khartoum and Juba.

Balloting will determine who will serve as national president and president of the South, members of parliament, and state governors and state assemblies.

Mr. Waziri said the NEC has invited both local and international poll observers to help ensure transparency.
