Western Bahr el Ghazal ministry of education conducted a one day workshop in schools in Wau to prepare a de-worming campaign in collaboration with ministry of health and supported by the World Food Programme.

The workshop is aimed at training trainers who will supervise the process of de-worming pupils, Voice of Hope reported.

James Uchin, director of primary health care for Western Bahr el Ghazal and representative of the state ministry of health in the workshop, said the training intended to give skills to trainers.

He added that every county was represented by some teachers and personnel from the ministry of health to ensure that the de-worming process is carried out successfully.

He noted that people in rural areas have to be sensitized about the importance of de-worming.

Dr Uchin said de-worming is part of the school health programme and should be carried out twice a year.

He reasserted that de-worming is aimed at protecting the children against worms that are health hazards.

Dr Uchin explained that worms have negative impacts on the performance of pupils and lowers their capacity of concentration.

He added that the trainers are given the knowhow concerning the worm’s areas of concentration and how to recognize and treat them since different kinds of worms require different treatment.

Dr Uchin urged all the citizens of Great Bahr el Ghazal to cooperate with the programme in order to achieve high results.

The campaign starts next week.
