The President of the Republic yesterday swore in the new chairperson to Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.

Peter Lam was welcome by the deputy chairperson of the commission Jovana Luka Joseph, Bakhita Radio reported.

She said it was not through struggle that the new chairperson made it, but through the trust of the President.

Ms Luka thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit for trusting and giving the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) the opportunity to continue offering services to the people.

She added that SSRRC is one of the most challenging commissions in the country.

Ms Luka said returnees and natural and man-made disasters are the main challenges the Commission faces.

She added that with the help of President Kiir, the Commission will achieve sustainable development.

The new SSRRC leader Peter Lam said he took the solemn responsibility with pride and humility.

He added that the Commission is dealing with vulnerable people, reliefs supply, reconstruction and development.

Mr Lam said his office is entrusted with the responsibility of constructing shelters for the returnees coming from Sudan, Egypt and Israel and other parts of the world.

Mr Lam said SSRRC is the largest government institution that employs more than 453 people.

He added that he will make employment procedures are handled well.
