The number of infected children with measles has increased in first quarter of this year in Western Bahr El Ghazal.
The alert comes from Salah Abulgasim Yons, deputy director of the Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI).He told Voice of Hope in Wau that there were more than 100 cases of measles in three counties of the state in March and April.
EPI decided to launch an immunization campaign in collaboration with MSF, the medic charity Doctors without Borders.
The official pointed out that the two-day campaign started on Monday in 20 centres inside Wau County.
Mr Abulgasim explained that measles is a viral disease diffused among kids under five years of age.
He said the increase of measles infections in Western Bahr El Ghazal may be connected with the massive arrival of returnees.
Mr Abulgasim said the immunization which consists of injection has no side effects.
Jur River County was already covered and MSF will vaccinate the children in Raja County within days.
