Nyala Police, in South Darfur, have released three South Sudanese detained almost two months ago.
On April 23, the Sudanese security services closed down the offices of Sudan Aid Ð a Catholic charity Ð and Sudan Council of Churches, detaining three Sudan Aid staff from South Sudan and confiscating cars and office equipment from both organizations. The security services also closed down a clinic run by the Catholic Church to assist internally displaced people from the camps.
A local source told CRN that the first detainee was freed on Monday and the remaining two were released yesterday evening.
The security services however did not release the cars and office equipment belonging to Sudan Aid.
Our source said security around Nyala is unstable and armed attacks are constant.
The road from Nyala to El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is closed to traffic due to insecurity.
Nyala residents are experiencing long power cuts due to lack of diesel. Apparently rebel forces intercepted and arrested a convoy of fuel tankers coming to South Darfur.
