The Second Sudan Household Health Survey that is taking place during this month will generate social data on nutrition, education, child and maternal health, HIV-AIDS, immunization, care of illness, access to safe drinking water, sanitation, child labour, and birth registration, among others.

UNICEF says in a note to the pres that this survey is a vital tool to monitor progress of the Millennium Development Goals in Sudan.

It will also help measure the efficiency and effectiveness of public policies and service delivery as part of the UN and government’s commitment to improve transparency and accountability.

This survey follows the first Sudan Household Health Survey conducted in 2006 that was coordinated by the Southern Sudan Centre for Census, Statistics and Evaluation supported by the UN and led by UNICEF.

The process involved training of a huge number of collectors who are now gathering the data across the Sudan.
