Yambio Prison Hospital is giving quality service to pregnant mothers and children free of charge.
Warrant Officer senior midwife Anthoniatha Rusumu told Anisa FM that during the last six months, 21 mothers have delivered successfully at the health facility.She added that Yambio Prison Hospital works for free to promote good health for inmates and to the public in the state.
Ms Rusumu, who started working as midwife since 1983, said mothers and the public must bring children for a general check up to the prison hospital because all the staff are well trained and qualified for the service.
Lieutenant Phillip Mohamet Biringi, who heads the Administrator for the Prison Hospital, said civilians should not be scared to visit the facility thinking that it is for inmates only.
He added that the hospital was started as a small unit in 1948 for treating prisoners.
Senior Medical Officer Venasio Gaza Bawiri said it happened twice that mothers brought their children when it was very late but the hospital staff tried their best to bring those children back to life.
