South Sudan is part of a list of shame naming 32 parties who use child soldiers persistently although 272 boys were released from the SPLA and rebel groups in 2011.
The report, published by the UN agency Children and Armed Conflict, says the UN verified 352 cases of recruitment or use of children and 253 were associated with SPLA while 99 were associated with rebel groups operating in Jonglei State.The report added that in 2011 the UN verified that 104 children were killed and 78 maimed in combat in South Sudan.
It said the SPLA occupied 21 schools leaving almost 11 thousand children out of education. Another ten schools were damaged in Jonglei State during inter-tribal clashes.
The report says that a total of 602 children were reportedly abducted during 2011 mostly in Jonglei, of which 356 cases were verified by the UN.
