The President of the Republic has said today border negotiations between South Sudan and Sudan have failed and both countries have to submit the demarcation to the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Holland.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told MPs that South Sudan repeatedly sought to resolve the border demarcation with Sudan since 2005 with no progress.

He said Sudan was not ready to sort out the border issue.

President Kiir added that Khartoum wants to occupy South Sudan’s territories and exploit its resources.

He disclosed that he wrote to the African Union Peace and Security Council urging the organism to refer the border issues to the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

President Kiir warned that he will not accept any binding solution from the African Union that favours Khartoum if the two countries fail to strike a deal within three months on post independent issues.

The African Union roadmap for South Sudan and Sudan adopted by the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2046 gives the AU High Level Implementation Panel the right to impose a binding solution upon the two countries if they are not able to negotiate one.
