The Sudan Armed Forces have in their arsenal anti-personal mines of Italian origin or using Italian technology.

The revelation comes from Small Arms Survey that has analyzed photographs of weapons the SPLA capture in Higlig-Panthou last April.

Among the stockpiles of weapons abandoned by the fleeing Sudanese soldiers there was a box of anti-personal mines resembling the Italian manufactured TS-50 and VS-50 varieties.

Small Arms Survey says the VS-50 is also manufactured under license in Singapore.

The NGO also studied the fragments of an air-to-ground rocket fired by Sudanese warplanes on Bentiu and concluded that the rocket is believed to be a Chinese copy of the Russian weapon.
