South Sudan Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation against Ikotos County Commissioner, in Eastern Equatoria, over an alleged human rights violation.

Eastern Equatoria state caretaker governor, Johnson Juma Okot, told Radio Emmanuel that Commissioner Pasquale Angasi was mentioned as murder suspect and he was removed from office to pave the way for investigations to take place.

Mr. Okot added that a man was shot in what seems to have been an extra-judicial killing and the commissioner is accused of being behind the incident.

Mr. Okot said that Mr. Angasi was removed so that his immunity could be lifted and prove his innocence in the court of law.

The caretaker governor refuted rumours that Mr. Angasi lost his job on political grounds.

Mr. Okot explained that security and administration issues are behind the former commissioner’s misfortune, saying his absence from duty slowed down decision making and actions on security issues in the County.
