SPLM candidate for GoSS president was expected yesterday in Renk, Upper Nile, to launch his candidacy but Salva Kiir Mayardit did not show up while the NCP candidate to the top job in the republic made a quick stop over at Renk to inaugurate the power supply system.
SPLM Renk County office made the preparation for the welcoming Mr. Kiir since Friday expecting the candidate to arrive yesterday, SCR News correspondent reported.Mr. Kiir was expected in Renk together with the SPLM candidate for Upper Nile governor, Simon Kun Puoch.
Dok Jok Dok, SPLM state chairperson and the deputy governor of Upper Nile, apologized to the crowd that gathered in Renk, saying Mr. Kiir was in Nasir County and promised he may come in the coming days.
Artist John Kudusay and many others entertained the crowd.
In a related development, yesterday morning NCP candidate to the presidency of the republic, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, inaugurated Renk’s electricity network before leaving the town quickly.
Mr. al-Bashir said in the occasion that Renk is the only lucky city in south Sudan to get its electricity coming from Damazein, in North Sudan.
The inauguration was a low key event, because people were waiting for the arrival of Mr. Kiir.
