The Government of South Sudan has received today 23.6 million US Dollars from donors to finance the formation of civil servants.

National Finance Minister Kosti Manibe and Dutch ambassador Kees van Baar signed an agreement to extend the second phase of the Capacity Building Trust Fund (CBTF) to January 2014.

The money comes from the Joint Donors Team funded by Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

Ambassador van Baar explained that the money is to be used to train parliament, anti-corruption commission, audit chamber and information ministry officials.

He said in times of economic crisis it is important that civil servants work effectively.

Ambassador van Baar added that the CBTF will keep on clearing up ghost workers for the Government’s pay roll.

Minister Kosti explained that people should not lose courage because formation of human resources is an ongoing exercise that never finishes.

He explained that after answering particular needs the training advances to regular programmes.

The CBTF started in 2009 to train over 4,000 civil servants and provide some technical assistance and systems together with infrastructures and equipment.

So far, the Government received over 73 million US dollars to train civil servants.
