The Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement for Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) says he is not against referendum on self-determination due to take place in January 2011 because he is the father of the idea.

Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin told journalists today that he was the first leader to talk about self determination in the Fashoda Peace Talks with Khartoum.

Dr. Akol said he cannot stand against the idea he himself launched.

Dr. Akol added that southerners must unite if they are to achieve what they want.

Dr. Akol made these statements before the presentation of his candidacy for GoSS president this morning at the Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.

He was received by a huge crowd at Juba International Airport upon his arrival from Khartoum.

Thousands of supporters applauded as Dr. Akol explained his programme for change.

He said among the changes he will bring are the improvement of economy, security, civil services and the reduction of GoSS workforce.
