The Catholic Bishop of Torit has concluded his pastoral tour to the Eastern Deanery with a visit to Sacred Heart-Chukudum Parish.
Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek surprised many people when he visited Nagishot, an isolated area located up in the Didinga Mountains with a poor road and without proper bridges and adequate services, Radio Emmanuel reported.Christians in Nagishot, including Pastor William Laku, said the visit was an indicator that Bishop Akio is a servant of God, who endured difficulties to visit his people.
Cecilia Nakiru said Bishop Akio’s visit to Nagishot was a blessing.
In Chukudum, Bishop Akio held meetings with members of the parish council and catechists to discuss ways to develop the parish and strengthen evangelization.
He encouraged catechists and parents to maintain their Catholic faith by enrolling infants for baptism, prepare young children for Holy Communion and confirmation while couples should get married in the Church.
Bishop Akio suggested the parish to start a fund for catechists to engage in income generating activities to support their families.
He placed much emphasis on farming as Budi County is one of the blessed areas in Eastern Equatoria state with fertile land and favourable.
The pastoral tour of Bishop Akio started on January 1 in Tirangore and ends with a visit to Lowoi parish in the Central Deanery.
