The ministry of Social Development in Western Bahr El-Ghazal has raised concern over the rise in children abandonment by parents saying it has never been the culture before.

James Fredrick Bilal, Director of Administration and Child Welfare in the state, revealed to Voice of Hope this morning that his ministry has registered repeated cases of child abandonment since independence.

He said that this month alone his office received reports of four consecutive incidents of children abandoned by unknown mothers in 11 days, including a three-day old baby.

Mr Fredrick condemned the practice that is new in the state.

The official called on the entire population to campaign against this social evil.

Mr Fredrick appealed to partners to work hand in hand with the Social Development ministry in order to minimize the incidences of child abandonment and to ensure proper upkeep of those already found.

The abandoned children are temporarily under the care of foster mothers as the police investigate who their real mothers are.
