The Government wants the first year independence celebrations to be modest due to the austerity situation.
Secretary-General of the Government of South Sudan, Abdun Agau, heads the technical committee for the independence celebrations and chaired today the first meeting in Juba.Mr Agau told the press that the committee set up a number of subcommittees tasked with preparing budgets and specific programmes within the austerity plan.
He said the committee has been alerted by the government that this year’s July 9 celebrations must be modest because there are no enough resources to afford big festivals.
Mr Agau said the technical committee will recommend to the national government to support the Independence Day celebrations at state level.
The technical committee formed six subcommittees including protocol and ceremony, catering and services, security and parade, entertainment, information and finance, to prepare the national celebrations in Juba.
