Eastern Equatoria state caretaker governor dispelled public speculation about the removal of Ikotos County Commissioner saying Pasquale Angasi was sacked due to security reasons.

John Juma Okot said Mr. Angasi was not relieved of duties out of political motives but due to security concerns from an upsurge of cattle rustling and attacks on civilians in the area, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Peter Lokenge is the new Commissioner for Ikotos County.

Mr. Angasi was in Nairobi at the time the caretaker governor offered the office to the new Commissioner.

Mr. Okot said the absence of the former commissioner, Mr. Angasi, from office – he was in Nairobi for medical treatment – was another factor that contributed to his dismissal from the job.

Mr. Okot stresses that without the commissioner, decision making and taking actions on security matters slowed down.

The recent clash between the Logir and the Dongotono communities over relief food in Ikotos County is one of the security concerns in point against the outgoing commissioner.

Four people died in the clash while over 30 others were wounded and treated at Ikotos health centre.
