LOCAL LEADERS UNGERGO AIDS TRAINING IN YAMBIO

The South Sudan AIDS commission is currently conducting a five-day training to the community leaders in Western Equatoria State on HIV awareness.

Achol Ayom Dor, the deputy chairperson of the South Sudan Aids Commission, told Anisa Radio that the government has set plans to train the community leaders such as chiefs, church leaders, community based organization’s members.

She explained that the main reason for choosing these categories of people is that they are the key components in the society closed to the ordinary people on the ground.

60 participants from various backgrounds in Western Equatoria State are attending this workshop.

Dr Achol said Western Equatoria is the only state in South Sudan where people living with the virus have come out open about there status.

She advised those infected to eat enough vegetables like the cassava leaves but not relying only on meat.

Dr Achol added that by 2020 the commission hopes that HIV will be eradicated through preventing new infections.
