EASTERN EQUATORIA STATE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Eastern Equatoria state is marking today International Women’s Day, in Torit town.

Mrs. Lucy Ilika Aquinto, the head of women in Eastern Equatoria, said the commemoration has been postponed till today due to financial constraints, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Mrs. Aquinto urged female members of the armed forces and with non-governmental organizations to take an active part during the celebrations to mark the belated International Women’s Day.

This year’s celebrations were held under the theme “Equal rights, equal opportunities: Progress for all”.

The day is also observed with calls for protection of rights of women, as vulnerable members in the society, as well as encouraging women to take a role in decision-making at different levels of government.
