South Sudan’s journalists are celebrating today World Press Freedom Day with a function in Juba under the theme “Access to Quality Information and its Relationship to Media Freedom”.

The Association for Media Development in South Sudan is organizing the event in collaboration with the Union of Journalists of South Sudan and supported by Norwegian People’s Aid.

The celebration aims to enable journalists, media actors and stakeholders to promote press freedom and democracy in South Sudan, educate journalists on lessons learned by journalists around the world and ask them to be more objective on their work.

Veteran journalist Albino Okenyi will develop the theme “Media in free and independent Nation” while the chairperson of the Human Rights Commission Laurence Korbandi will reflect on “Media and Human Rights.”

Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin will be the guest of honour at the function that starts at 2 PM in New Sudan Palace in Juba.
