A small aircraft at the service of WFP went off the runway and turned upside-down while landing at Yambio airstrip Wednesday morning.
The plane was flying from Juba and had 11 people onboard, Anisa FM reported.Civil Aviation State Director Christopher Toronvutu said the runway was clear but the pilot did not position well the aircraft for the touchdown.
He added that the pilot landed at the side of the runway and ended is a ditch.
Only the pilot was injured in the accident and was taken to Juba for medical care.
MP Anthony Lino Makana, representing Western Equatoria at the National Assembly in Juba, and the Ugandan diplomat Christine Akello were among the frightened passengers.
A technical team arrived in Wednesday evening from Juba to investigate the causes of the accident.
All flights to Yambio are suspended until further notice except helicopters.
