The National Minister for General Education and Instruction on Wednesday said there is need to initiate reforms that will improve the quality of education in the country.
Joseph Ukel told journalists in Rumbek after meeting with educationists in Lakes State that the education sector in the country was adversely affected during the 21-year of war, Good News Radio reported.He said the meeting discussed challenges facing the country’s education sector and the need for strategic planning and improvement of quality of education.
Mr Ukel said there are ten national secondary schools in South Sudan but the ministry started the reform with the historical ones including Rumbek, Atar, Bushere, Loka , Juba Day and Malakal el Shabiya.
He explained that the intake policy in those schools covers the whole country but gives the hosting state to take 20 percent seats and the remaining 80 percent are divided among the other nine states.
Mr Ukel added that government has policy to open more national secondary schools in future so that students from all corners of the country can meet and interact among themselves because they are the future leaders.
