The Government announced that it will be releasing today a number of Sudanese prisoners of war capture in Panthou-Higlig.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that the 14 Sudanese prisoners of war will be handed to the International Committee of the Red Cross today in Juba in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador, the ministry of foreign affairs and the SPLA.President Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered the release of Sudanese soldiers captured in the Panthou-Higlig after Egyptian foreign minister Mohammed Kamel Amrurged interceded for their liberty on humanitarian grounds.
Dr Marial said seven SPLA troops, including an officer, were taken by the Sudan Armed Forces and the Government of South Sudan does not know if they are dead or alive.
He asked Khartoum to respect humanitarian laws.
