The five-day official visit the President of the Republic is making to China is strategic to build confidence and a stronger relationship between the two states.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press today that China is a very important member of the UN Security Council and a strategic partner of South Sudan.

He added that President Hu Jintao invited President Salva Kiir Mayardit to visit China to strengthen economic, political, security and bilateral relations with South Sudan.

The Chinese National Oil Company owns 40 percent of South Sudan’s oil.

Dr Marial said China can play an important mediating role between South Sudan and Sudan, like a husband who has two wives.

He added that Mr Kiir is sending a message of confidence and ability with his visit to China.

Dr Marial said the visit is also a diplomatic act to build international relations because South Sudan needs friends.

The spokesperson said China is very powerful in Africa and South Sudan needs soft loans to build the oil pipeline, dams to produce electricity and roads.
