The retired bishop of Torit is proposing a fair share of oil revenue to avert the standoff between South Sudan and Sudan threatening to bring both countries to full scale war.
Bishop Paride Taban was in Norway on a visit earlier in the month and he told the Norwegian people that he was deeply concerned with the very negative development in the situation in South Sudan.
He said the oil conflict and the following fighting in the border area are shadowing the positive potentials of South Sudan and will hamper the support from the international community.
Bishop Taban added that the people of South Sudan has been suffering for so long and they need to find peace and stability to attract investors and give the country the most needed development of natural resources and a stable income for the people.
He explained that oil is not South Sudan’s only resource, but the dispute is clouding the potential of other natural resources.
Bishop Taban underlined that a solution must be found, and both governments should accept a fair share of South Sudan’s oil income.
He added that South Sudan and Sudan are better off accepting a reasonable share of oil revenue to stabilize the current situation and avoid further conflicts and bloodshed.
