Acholi and Ma’di communities of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria State have signed a settlement to cease their inter-tribal hostilities.
Leaders from both communities reached an understanding after a three-day conference in Torit and called on their peoples to end all hostilities and other forms of violent confrontations, Radio Emmanuel reported.The leaders pledged to continue working together with Inter-Church Committee, other partners and relevant levels of government to seek lasting peace.
They vowed to promote peaceful coexistence among the population of the respective communities.
Acholi and Ma’di leaders agreed to rededicate themselves to pursue bilateral talks under the auspices of the Inter-Church Committee and other partners to seek an acceptable and negotiated settlement of common differences.
They pledged to promote security, peace and development in Magwi County in collaboration with Eastern Equatoria Government and other partners.
The Acholi and Ma’di Peace Conference that ended yesterday attracted over 500 participants: about 150 delegates and invited observers.
