The President of the Republic has ordered the army to leave Panthou-Higlig within three days.
Government spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists and ambassadors that President Salva Kiir Marardit has ordered the withdrawal of SPLA forces from Panthou-Higlig.He said the move was in respond to the UN Security Council statement and to world leaders who called on South Sudan to pull out from Panthou-Higlig and to create a suitable environment for dialogue.
He added that the army has three days to leave Panthou-Higlig.
Dr Marial said the decision to withdraw from Panthou-Higlig does not mean South Sudan has given up its claim over the territory.
He said Panthou-Higlig and other disputed border areas will be referred to international arbitration.
He called on Khartoum to immediately stop aerial and ground attacks into the territory of South Sudan.
Dr Marial said there is now a crucial need for a robust international engagement to promote a peaceful resolution of dispute between the two Sudans.
