CUSS, the Catholic University of South Sudan, is living through exciting times with the affiliation with CUEA, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and preparations for the first graduation ceremony.

Vice-chancellor Michael Schultheis told CRN that the affiliation agreement was approved two weeks ago.

He explained that Catholic University gives its students a certificate of completion after the course and CUEA will award them with the degree.

Fr Schultheis said Catholic University has two programmes in Juba: Economics and Business and Teachers’ Training. In Wau it has the College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies together with a Food Security Programme in collaboration with the University of Juba.

The Catholic University has over 500 students and in May 12 it will graduate the pioneer group of Economics and Business, in Juba.

Fr Schultheis said the Catholic University needs to consolidate its teaching and learning processes and develop proper infrastructures for the campus in Juba.

Plans and money are ready and the university is waiting that the Government of Central Equatoria clears a plot of land already given to start the buildings.

The Catholic University plans to start a master’s degree on professional leadership studies in 2014 in collaboration with Canadian and US universities in answer to local needs.

It started operating in Juba at the end of September 2009.
