US ENVOY ASKS FOR TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS TO PAVE WAY FOR REFERENDUM

The U.S. envoy to the Sudan said the April 11 to 14 elections must be as transparent as possible in order to prepare the way for the 2011South Sudan referendum on self-determination.

Scott Gration said today that presidential and parliamentary polls would not be perfect but could still reflect the will of the people, Associated Press reported.

Mr. Gration was speaking in Nairobi where regional leaders that form the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) met with GoSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit and GoNU Vice President Osman Taha to verify the full implementation of the CPA.
