The President of the Republic has told the national parliament that there will be no SPLA pullout from Higlig and called on MPs to tell their constituencies to be ready to defend the nation after Sudan declared full scale war against South Sudan.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told the MPs that SPLA forces have retaken oil-rich Higlig area after Sudan’s aggression on Tuesday in Unity State.

He explained that when the SPLA soldiers went into Higlig last month, he ordered them to withdraw because it is a contested area and he hoped it could be resolved by peaceful means not military force.

He said this time he will not order the army to withdraw from Higlig.

President Kiir added that the reason to occupy Higlig was not because South Sudan wanted war but to resolve the issue once and for all.

He said Sudan Air Force has scaled up air attacks ant it carried more than 60 air raids in Unity state.

The president added that SAF bombed Bentiu town this morning and one soldier died.

President Kiir urged MPs to sensitize the people in their constituencies to by ready to defend the nation from any aggression from Sudan.

He sent MPs into a one-month recess.
