Members of the National Legislative Assembly yesterday passed into law the National Elections Bill 2012.
Dengtiel Kuur, who chairs the committee of legislation and justice, presented the reports of the committee and said the bill was delayed because the minister of Justice was in Addis Ababa for the negotiations with Sudan.He added that the committee incorporated into the Bill the observations and the recommendations of the House.
Minister of Justice John Luk Jpk said after the next elections the National Assembly will be reduced to 250 MPs. Currently it has 332.
He said the National Elections Law also regulates by-elections and local elections.
MPs voted unanimously against a provision giving the President the right to appoint eight MPs.
