Students from private schools did much better than those from public schools in Western Bahr el Ghazal in the Basic School Examinations for the year 2011-2012.

The State Ministry of Education announced that this year over 3,200 students sat for the Primary School Leaving exams and 79 percent passed, Radio Voice of Hope announced.

Caretaker education minister Adil Atanasio Surur said the delay to announce the final results was due to a poor system of recording.

He assured that the state authorities will introduce a computer system next year.

Mr Surur said that this year the numbers of boys and girls taking the exam increased but the numbers of girls was less than that of boys.

He pointed out that the private schools overtopped government schools this year with most of the top ten students coming from the private schools of Wau Catholic Diocese.

Mr Surur announced that the top ten students will have a free access to government secondary schools.

Few head teachers and students were present during the announcement of the results.
