The Principal of University of Juba said today that the Students’ Union has gone too far asking for the removal of some top administrators.

Yesterday the Juba University Students’ Union issued a statement calling for the Vice Chancellor, Principal and Dean of Students to stand down following tribal clashes at the Atlabara campus.

University of Juba Principal, Wani Sule, told CRN that the Students Union has no power to demand the dismissal of any administrator of the institution.

He said the union has no legal grounds to ask their removal because it was not responsible for their appointment.

Prof Sule said he heard the Students Union saying the university does not reflect national character but he does not understand what they mean by that.

The chairperson of the Juba University Students’ Union Council, Michael Gwe Lia, maintained that the union is standing by the statement calling for the removal of three university administrators.

He said the union is urging the government to sack them for the sake of stability at the university.

Mr Gwe added that he believed that the government would intervene because it could not afford chaos to continue at the University of Juba.
