The students of the Catholic University of South Sudan have regretted the incidents at the University of Juba that resulted in the closure of the establishment.

The University of Juba was closed down yesterday following three days of fighting among students due to ethnic tensions.

Ganun Victor, President of the Students Union at the Catholic University of South Sudan, told Bakhita Radio that he feels unhappy with the situation the students and the administration at Juba University are undergoing.

Mr Ganun said that his office dealt with several similar issues before they reached the administration.

He added that problems are adequately solved when two opposing sides are brought together to resolve their differences before the Union.

He lamented that the University was closed again.

Juba University Students Unions is calling for the removal of the university’s administration.

M. Ganun said the sole purpose of Students Union is to bridge between students and the administration and it has no mandate to demand the removal of administrators or lecturers but to ask them to address issues.

Christine Kiden Michael, first-year economic student, expressed sympathy to the colleagues of Juba University.

She urged the students not to lose hope but remain patient and persevere till the issue is resolve.

The deans of Juba University held an emergency board meeting yesterday and decided to close the institution until further notice to cool down tensions among students.
