Justice and Peace Desk at Rumbek Diocese will focus on promoting cultures of peace through community outreach programs to be carried out in the different parishes of the diocese.

This was revealed to Radio Good News by the coordinators of Justice and Peace after attending a Peace Building workshop sponsored by Catholic Relief Services in Juba.

Joe Kroeker and Heather Peters said the workshop helped them realize that besides providing emergency relief to victims of conflict, it is important to look at the underlying causes of conflict.

Describing their context of service as “cultures of violence”, they said they will engage in promoting cultures of peace.

Heather Peters said that the workshop reminded her that peace cannot be achieved singlehandedly.

Ms. Peters added that peace comes from different people and from different sources.

Joe Kroeker added that the Justice and Peace desk plans to reach to as many missions of the diocese as possible, working in partnership with the women’s desk and the healing of the healers department.

Other departments of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek include Education, Pastoral and Health.
