The University of Juba was closed down yesterday following three days of fighting among students due to ethnic tensions.

The deans of the University held an emergency board meeting yesterday and decided to close the institution until further notice to cool down tensions among students.

A number of students were injured in the fighting that started on Monday evening after a friendly match between Upper Nile and Eastern Equatoria students turned sour.

Students were ordered to vacate hostels and other university installations immediately.

Staff have to report for work as usual.
