Three trains carrying more than 2,000 returnees from Khartoum arrived Sunday in Wau.

State officials welcomed the returnees at the railway station and promised basic services through partners’ help.

Voice of Hope spoke with some of the returnees at the station as they were registered.

Though many were overwhelmed with joy and jubilation for having reached their destination after a two-week journey, they faced some challenges on the way.

Mondu Ashiek Sahib said though they arrived safely, they faced some threats especially from some Messeriah individuals.

Mr Ashiek said they were not allowed by migration authorities to come with food.

He said despite of all the difficulties he was happy that he reached his homeland.

Fatna Peter Fahal expressed her concern over those who are still to come from Khartoum.

She said she hoped that they would arrive safely.

The state ministry of health vaccinated returnee’s children under five years of age upon arrival at Wau railway station.
