Six girls are among the 18 students who enrolled for a two-year course on agriculture in Leer, Unity State.
Nicola Bortoli is the director of St Daniel Comboni Vocational Training Centre in Leer. He told CRN over the phone that it was quite a surprise to have six women in this year’s intake.Bro Bortoli, a Comboni Missionary from Italy, said the VTC-Leer offers a course on crop and animal production but next year it will add metal works and mechanics.
He revealed that the workshops are already being built to accommodate the new course.
Bro Nicola said the 18 newcomers are doing a one-month long intensive course in English and Mathematics since the beginning of March.
The 12 second-year students, including two girls, will return to the centre in mid-April.
Bro Nicola disclosed that in 2014 the VTC-Leer should start a third course on carpentry.
The VTC-Leer is run by the Comboni Missionaries.
