The Administration of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba has issued today a statement condemning the way security forces handled the directress of Bakhita FM saying it was offensive.
On Wednesday, security personnel closed Bakhita Radio, stopped the emission and took the directress Sr. Cecilia Sierra Salcido to the Security Office with no reasonable explanation.
Fr. Martin Ochaya Lino is the Secretary General is the Secretary General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba.
In his statement, read for SCR News, he wrote that the Church was offended by the incident.
Fr. Ochaya added the church will allow its personnel and institution to be treated as criminals.
Fr. Ochaya wrote that what happened to Sr. Cecilia and Bakhita Radio was regrettable.
He added no one except the Catholic Church can determine the mandate of its radio station.
Fr. Ochaya concluded his statement appealing to the authorities concerned to treat the issue seriously and avoid similar experiences in the future.
Meanwhile, the day after the incident, Major General Johnson Losuk, Central Equatoria Director of Security, came to Bakhita Radio in person and apologized to the Directress for the incident.
Mr. Losuk promised that the incident will not be repeated again.
