The United Nations Mission in Sudan, known as UNMIS, will provide at least fifteen helicopters to reach rural areas with no proper roads during the elections.
Ray Kennedy, UNMIS chief of elections, told the press this afternoon in Juba that the mission has identified at least 55 inaccessible locations in southern Sudan where helicopters will be provided to deliver elections material.Mr. Ray added that UNMIS is also assisting the National elections Commission in (NEC) operational and logistical plans and procedures for vote registration, nominations, polling and counting and announcement of the final results.
UNMIS has over 200 staff advising and assisting their counterparts on NEC’s state high committees in preparation for the elections all over the twenty five states of the Sudan.
