Nearly 900 families were registered and qualify to receive humanitarian emergency aid in Haiban County of Nuba Mountains.

Simon I., who headed of registration team, said they assessed and registered internally displaced persons from February 15 to 23 in five places of the county.

He added that now the team is verifying the registrations in order to start the distribution of humanitarian aid.

Mr Simon explained that they have around 500 households registered to receive food items and 400 non-food items.

He added that the food items include wheat flour, cooking oil and sugar.

Lentils, palm nuts and special food for malnourished children did not arrive yet.

Mr Simon said the distribution of humanitarian emergency food was to start in January but it was delayed due to the lack of vehicles and road blocks.

Last week, the road from South Sudan to South Kordofan was reopened after a fierce battle between the SPLA-North and Darfur rebel forces and the Sudanese military.

Since then, four trucks carrying food and other aid items arrived in Kauda town.
