UNMISS, the UN Mission in South Sudan, has trained 30 SPLA officers on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
UNMISS Human Rights Officer Mary Bindi said the training sought to emphasize human rights with respect to the security code of conduct.She said in a press release that some SPLA officers lack basic knowledge on human rights shown in their actions and omissions.
The three-day training session aimed to boost knowledge on human rights in the military.
It covered topics such as civil disorder, humanitarian law and implementation of human rights in armed conflicts, as well as sexual and gender-based violence and children’s rights.
