Southern Sudan political parties are facing funding and security challenges especially now that elections campaigns are out.

Clement Juma Mbugoniwia is the chairperson of the United Southern Sudan party (USSP).

He told SCR News that lack of funds is a major problem and without them candidates are not able to move all over the constituencies to present their programmes.

Mr. Mbugoniwia explained that candidates who are in executive posts may use government assets during their campaigns in a very serous violation of electoral law.

Mr. Mbugoniwia mentioned also the safety of candidates. He said the parties are not certain about the security of their candidates while on the campaign trek.

Asked if the parties have any remedies in place, Mr. Mbugoniwia said the code of conducted adopted by all southern parties on Tuesday must be fully implemented by the government..

The USSP chairperson asked the authorities to fund parties and ensure the safety of their candidates, free form violence and intimidation.
