Ninety candidates turned up for interview at Rumbek’s Loreto Girls’ Secondary School last Saturday competing for 30 places in Form One.
Principal Orla Treacy told Good News Radio that the increasing number of girls wanting to join the school represents a significant accomplishment in girl child education. She said she regretted that the school could select only 30 girls out of the 90 candidates.
Sr. Orla added that the selection will consider a percentage of girls from the rural and urban areas, from diocesan and government schools, returnees, and girls with physical disabilities.
The Principal recognized the increasing awareness on the part of many parents about the value of education, adding that more and more girls are also developing an interest in education.
Sr Prla said Loreto School is constructing another four classrooms and an additional dormitory to double its form-one intake next year to 60.
The pioneer students at Loreto Secondary School in Rumbek sat for their Secondary School Certificate examination last November after four years of studies at the institution.
