Eastern Equatoria caretaker governor has ordered that residents in Torit town with poor hygiene premises should be fined to protect public health.
Johnson Juma Okot issued the orders to fine untidy residents after he recently declared a clean-up day in Torit to get rid of the town’s rubbish.Fines rate from ten up to one hundred Sudanese pounds, depending on the prominence of the individuals or institutions.
The caretaker governor said commercial premises, institutions, including government and NGO officials, are not exempted from fines, adding that they will pay the highest amounts if they are found operating in a filthy environment.
A daylong general cleaning in Torit town on Wednesday last week ensued in a fresh wave of atmosphere to the residents.
