GoSS and the Manager of the World Bank Southern Sudan Program Wednesday signed four grant agreements totaling approximately 125 million US Dollars to finance health and road infrastructure programs.
GoSS Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, David Deng Athorbei, promised that the funds will be utilized for their intended purposes.
World Bank Manager for the Southern Sudan Program. Laurence Clarke, on his turn said the projects signed on are aligned to the Government’s overall strategy of strengthening service delivery and improving critical infrastructure to improve the lives of Southern Sudanese.
The first grant of 63 million for health will support management capacity, monitoring and evaluation, pharmaceutical management, and expand basic health delivery and medical human resource development.
Another 40 million will be used for road rehabilitation and finance feasibility studies for feeder roads to connect production areas to market centers.
The third project costing $20 million will finance new offices and training of Police and Prisons personnel.
Finally, the fourth project –Adolescent Girls’ Initiative– aims at giving life skills training for adolescent girls between the ages of 15 to 21.
The 1.7 million project will be implemented through BRAC South Sudan, a local Nongovernmental organization.
