Three top leaders from Western Equatoria state are in Eastern Equatoria to commemorate the 75th birthday of retired Bishop Paride Taban of Torit.

Governor Joseph Bakasoro expressed gratitude for visiting Eastern Equatoria state again after his recent trip to witness the signing of the state Transitional Constitution.

He said he came to celebrate Bishop Taban’s 75th birthday.

Mr Bakasoro explained that he came with Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro of Tombura-Yambio, Paramount Chief Wilson Hasan Piny and Parliamentary Affairs minister Awad Kisanga to show solidarity to Eastern Equatoria people.

He praised Bishop Taban for his great contribution to peace in entire South Sudan.

Mr Bakasoro said the Diocese of Torit was very powerful in Southern Sudan during the struggle.

He added that the visit shows the commitment to unity among the people of Greater Equatoria to support each other as brothers.

Bishop Taban was born in 1936 at Opari, Magwi County, and ordained to the priesthood in 1964.

He was appointed auxiliary Bishop of Juba in 1980 and three years later Bishop of Torit.

He retired in 2004 and lives in Kuron Peace Village.
