The Catholic Bishop of Torit has called for the review and change of development strategies in the Church.

Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek made the remark yesterday while closing a three-day workshop organized the diocese to launch the Caritas-Torit office.

He said the Church needs to review and change the previous objectives and goals because some of them are no longer matching the current reality of peace.

Bishop Akio explained that the Church’s mission statement needs to change so that people are able to progress in development.

He said the world is moving very fast and the Church must learn how to cope up with the changes so that it is not left behind.

Bishop Akio added there is still opportunity for the Church to change and improve though it has achieved tremendous development in harsh condition during the war where clinics and schools were bombed and many faithful lost lives.

He said the Catholic Diocese of Torit dedicated 25 years for service and sacrifices to the people.

Bishop Akio called on the Church to work hard and bring development right now at the peace time taking responsibility to implement development strategies shared by foreign experts.
