A charitable organization lauded the Good News Radio program advocating for girl child education in South Sudan.

Mercy Beyond Border Director Sister Marilyn Lacey called on all community members in South Sudan to work for the education of girls, arguing it is the only way for the citizens of the new country to cope with the global changes.

She encouraged girls to demand for formal education from their parents or uncles.

Sister Lacy added with time the people will realized that an educated and employed girls can bring a lot of resources to the family just as the cows.

She acknowledged the efforts of the national government to promote the girl child education.

She said the Transitional Constitution has guaranteed the right for formal education and women affirmative action was encouraging girls to peruse education.

Sister Lacey urged relevant authorities to formulate policies that will safeguard girl child against cultural practices like early and forced marriages.

Mercy Beyond Borders is committed to improving the lives of displaced women and children living in extreme poverty.

It is supporting health, education, and women empowerment projects in the Catholic dioceses of Torit and Rumbek.
